It is absurd to think a person could cry their eyes out; yet that expression shows the depths of sorrow. We sometimes bear such a heavy burden that we fall under its weight. Tears flow; our chest heaves and we wonder if we can ever stop crying. Many can not remember the last time they shed a tear; others cry at the drop of a hat. Jeremiah is described by some as the weeping prophet. Concern for his rebellious nation Israel brought him to tears. ""Oh, that my bread were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people (Jeremiah 9: NKJ)." He carried a message of God's judgment; but always mingled gloom with glory. He offered hope to all who would return to the Lord in repentance. Tears for others are never wasted. Crying is a poured out offering of prayer for those we hold dear.
